It can cause a lot of damage, but most of the time, the drivers threw it in gear an stalled them out before any other damage happened. I did have one run away in reverse and throw a rod.

If you have exhaust starting to smell like raw diesel, or an occasional fuel knock, don't ignore it. It's the start of injectors going and it'll be a matter of time. Educate the drivers on the issue. After we realized what the issue was and informed the drivers, all future issues were caught early before any damage.

Re: Dearborn DPA-5 USB and Bluetooth Adapter

Nitrous383 wrote ...

I paid $450 for the USB (P/N 3075-03), then made my own 9 to 6 pin adapter from an old ProLink cable and a plug from a scrap truck. I got it direct from Xscapeez, but now I see SPX bought them out, so the price may have gone up. If they're $670 now, I'd say pass and spend a little more on something better. I like it mostly for the size if it, and it does what I need it to do nicely.

There are alternatives, I have a huge box full of adapters I have tested over the years, some can be purchased for a little as $199.00 for J1708 and J1939 or $120 for just J1939 or just J1708 and some up over $2500.00 The key is getting something that has maximum value, that is the most bang for the buck. If you need a dealer grade adapter, the DPA5 is there, For a minimal adapter that fits the trucks you work on, and that happens to be J1708 and J1939 single CAN, your adapter or some of the other lower cost adapters will work. What we are looking for is an adapter that works with all of the features of our software.

Hello, just wanted to introduce my self. I have been a technician for 3 years in the industry after attending a technical school. I consider my self fortunate to work for a company(not named) that puts so much into training us technicians. I just recently obtained my master truck certification and also took part of the 2011 TMC in Raleigh. Its great to have a forum about truck repair and i was very happy when i found it.

hope to get to know you guys and learn from your experiences.

Good tips so far. Another is to submit a short letter of intent with your resume to make it stand out. Google letter of intent. Being a shop manager for 11 years now, I've hire many employees, from helpers to mechanics. Very few people will give a letter of intent and the ones that did got my attention.

One guy I hired as an apprentice said in his letter, "I strive to do the best I can do because the most important thing in my life providing my wife and children a good life."

There was a lot more the letter, but that sentence was the key for me. Especially coming from a 23 year old guy. Everyone wants more money, but that simple sentence told me that he knew that he was the key, strive to do better to keep a good job. So my advice is to tell a potential employer what you can do, what you're willing to learn and why. A resume is important, but a good letter of intent will take it to a personal level and you will stand out.

The bumper hung down on the radar unit where the harness plugs into it and broke the connector off.

I have a lot of Cascadia info that I'll have to dig up and post.

Yes, I worked at a large LTL company for 10 years, I started as a mechanic and worked my up to a shop manager. 75% of the were Detroits, the remainder were Cats, Volvo's or Mercedes. Nation wide, there were about 9500 tractors, my shop serviced 638. It wasn't a bad job, but the hours became too demanding and started cutting into the family life too much. 80+ hours/week left little time for the wife and kids, so I had to move on.

For the past year or so, I've been working at a smaller company, still a shop manager, but only 15 trucks/trails and 2 mechanics. 75% of my job is actually working on trucks with the guys, which I like much better than being stuck in an office 99% of the time.
