My experience with peterbilt or kenworth is very limited and so far, have only seen these trucks wired this way. Freightliners, Volvos and internationals concep is easier to understand. 4 batteries wired parallel, hot to starter, then alt, and ground to chassis.... Simple I guess... If this peterbilt is wired diffrently, why is the question... I never looked into where the wiring goes because like i said, experience with petes is very limited... I can think of only two reasons for PB to split the batteries into two seperate banks. One is to be able to increase the current capacity to the starter. The other is to improve battery life. In battery cables and particularly at each post, there is a slight resistance. If both the pos. and neg. cables are on battery 1, that battery will age faster from slightly higher draws and charges. One way around this is to put the pos. cable on, say, battery 1 and the ground on battery 4. The best way around this though, is four power and four ground cables from one common point to each battery. But I guess two power and two ground cables to each pair of batteries is nearly as effective.

So instead of being one positive and one negitive for 4 batts pete runs two seperate pos and neg wires then reconnect them back at starter and frame for charging purposes. I agree with having a broken ground wire on the set of batts that the ecm wires where connected too. MasterTech_TA022 ![]()
